Partnering with our Community

Our community extends beyond school-age families.   Grandparents, aunts, uncles and cousins are in various stages of their own life spans, but many of them are engaged in raising our New Market youngest.  They have needs and their needs have bearing on community fitness and social capital.

Where missions and ministries already exist, Friends of New Market will partner to enhance their reach.  Friends of New Market is teaming with CASA to coordinate the installation of wheelchair ramps, bathroom grab-bars and stair step handrails for New Market residents.   Those who can hammer a nail will have the opportunity to build and fellowship.

New Market is also multi-cultural.  In the future we will offer evening classes in “English as a Second Language (ESL).”   For adults seeking to improve their standing in the workforce, GED completion classes will be made available.

As far as Friends of New Market is concerned, our church Pastors provide the New Market community with the motivation and understanding of our charge from God.  “Be very careful then, how you live—not as unwise but as wise, making the most of every opportunity, because the days are evil,”  Ephesians 5:15-16.   We all know this world we live in is broken (evil).   But Paul reminds us that we were brought into this world for such a time as this.  Great needs = great opportunity.  Our Pastors are leading and training up folks with a heart to serve.   Our church families provide the “hands and feet” needed to meet the opportunities He presents.   Our churches are partnering with us to find people who are ready to invest in the opportunities that will appear.  To help our Pastors motivate people to serve, Friends of New Market will provide opportunity updates, newsletters, resource materials and networking avenues.  The volunteers that we reap are the hands and feet and spokespeople to our neighbors in New Market.  By serving, some will grow deeper in their faith.   Others may discover the transformational power of the Gospel for the first time.  In either case, our New Market church body will grow!
